Day 25 - Project 365 - Longhorn Beetle

Day 25 of Project 365

Longhorn Beetle

We saw 4 longhorn beetles yesterday night and I can say this is the highest number of longhorn beetle we have ever seen in one night. For some reason all 4 were quite active and flying around so we only managed to take one or two shots. The longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae; also known as long-horned or longhorn beetles or longicorns) are a cosmopolitan family of beetles, typically characterized by extremely long antennae, which are often as long as or longer than the beetle's body - YES!!. The family is large, with over 26,000 species described, slightly more than half from the Eastern Hemisphere. Several are serious pests
